Think about what that means.

We aren't simply making robots smaller.

We're beginning to create machines that can interact with the biological world at the scale where biology actually happens.

Genetics gives us the ability to understand and increasingly program the code of life.

Nanotechnology gives us the ability to build and manipulate things at extraordinarily small scales.

Robotics gives us machines that can sense, move, respond and perform tasks.

Put them together and suddenly you can imagine an entirely different generation of innovation:

Targeting disease with extraordinary precision.

Delivering therapies exactly where they're needed.

Detecting biological problems earlier.

Building and repairing at microscopic scales.

Creating new manufacturing, agricultural and healthcare technologies we haven't even named yet.

This is the GNR economy.

And that's what entrepreneurs should be watching.

Because some of the biggest businesses of the next decade aren't going to emerge from genetics, nanotechnology or robotics.

They're going to emerge from the intersection between them.

That's an important distinction.

Entrepreneurs have traditionally been taught to study their industry.

I think that's becoming dangerous advice.

Study the industries next to yours.

Study the technologies that appear to have absolutely nothing to do with your business today.

Then ask:

What happens when these technologies collide with my industry?

That's where entirely new markets get created.

That's where first-mover advantages appear.

And that's where somebody is going to build the next billion-dollar company.

So don't just watch GNR.

Ask yourself:

What could I build because GNR now exists that couldn't have been built five years ago?

Because GNR isn't coming.

It's already starting.
